Maybe it's best if the neopets franchise just called it quits. Everyone who has involved themselves with neopets, from the creators, to the staff, and even the fanbase has taken a nasty turn. I love rooting for the underdog, but let's be honest. Nostalgia can only take a franchise so far.

I've gotta disagree with your placement of Ginger island, in-game it is referred to as situated in an archipelago in the gem sea like you stated, now archipelagos are normally chains or clusters of smaller islands separated by lakes, rivers or the ocean, which wouldn't match with ginger island being one big land mass incredibly far from the gem sea. I also think that Prairie island is situated in the archipelago as well.

The war Kent fought in is more of a territorial dispute instead of all out war, inferred by the fact that there is no food rationing and streetlights stay on at night, meaning there is no fear of air attacks

I got recommended this, and it made me a little happy to see neopets has somewhat of a community left. I recently rewatched "The Neopets Experience" by tamago2474, and made a new neopets account. Sadly, I couldn't get into my old one. While on my old one I recall buying a paint brush, and stuff, I couldn't get back into it because it asked for the birthday associated with the account. I recall that I did use a birthday around my real birthday, because I was under 13 when I played and didn't have access to Trudy's Surprise, but I just can't get in because I didn't select my exact birthday :/

a really good and thoughtful video. just a small suggestion, itd be really helpful if there was maybe a small bit of text in the corner of the screen or something that had the name of the game on screen, just to make it easier to find the one you were looking for.

Videos like this always read as extremely bad faith to me; normal dialogue interpreted as callous (which feels biased) and a blatant disregard to the fact that other characters are just as (if not more so) directly calloused towards the player and are much more beloved (Shane, Hailey, Sebastian, and the Wizard who is rude to you on a consistent basis even after gaining hearts with him). I get that the gold statue has some wild implications, but I don't think we were ever meant to think THIS hard about it. Consider: It's kinda funny, and perhaps it was meant to be just kinda funny and silly. I've never understood the vitriolic Lewis hate in this fanbase imma be real. Second, and the least important, from this video i now have the headcannon that Emily is not a crystal girly but a bible girly. They both have their hands firmly planted into spirituality, but the latter gives the idea that Emily would be very different in our world, or shed be a christian witch. Now to the meat of this comment. So it feels like theres two possibilities for the void, either, there is a counterpart to yoba, who was born from the dark void yoba created when swirling the light and the creation of the vine, or yoba is the god of both, with his darker aspect also representing a form of silence or mystery. The former has no in game backing of any kind so im willing to mostly dismiss it, but the latter is a different story. Theres no hard proof, but there is a foundation for more speculation. the fact the words "golden void" are in the highlights from the book of yoba are interesting, it suggests the idea of voidness isnt always darkness and shadows in this world. My reasoning behind the idea of this aspect being one of mystery is because of krobys devotion to silence on the sabbath and no one talks about the darker aspect. Though that is a stretch. I think part of why I hate Lewis is because of the journey of getting to know him. He is introduced in the letter in a way that makes it feel like he is going to be important to the plot (he's not) or helpful (he's not). Then you met him and he's quite meh. Then you get to know him and realize he is a shitty person and undoubtfully the person to blame for the current state of the town.

the only thing i would change is moving Kent and Jodi up (i have an ex army dad and it's very healing to be able to foster a relationship with a veteran who can admit when they're wrong and moving Jodi up cause it's hard to take care of a veteran especially when they've just arrived home)

It's crazy to me that this whole conversion thing started in 2007. I must have left the site earlier than I thought because I didn't learn about this until years later and I was so confused.

Thankfully other sites like Neopets are out there, they arent anywhere as big as Neopets once was, but they're still pretty good. Waja's is one I play often.

I just now started playing again and noticed the gray stuff. I was super confused at first :D After i read the plot about everyone turning gray I was kinda sad to see some of the shop keepers being gray and sad after seeing them for the first time in years.

I actually agree with most of your opinion. My favorite paintbrushes are grey, toy and maraquan. I am also a big fan of mutant pets :)

The ending cutscene for the Jojamart route turns out to be very sweet. Spoilers ahead btw. If you do a completionist run with Joja, at the end you head up the mountain and Morris is there. He will tell you that when he was offered his own store he was very depressed at getting a store in Pelican Town, basically a tiny village no one has ever heard of. He will go on to say that as time passed he came to understand what a wonderful place Stardew Valley really was and was grateful that he was a part of the community. I never thought Morris was a bad guy anyway and furthermore there is something just downright evil with physically assaulting an employee of a corporation and driving him out of town just because he doesn't conform to you or the rest of the villagers' "values".

I'm enchanted by Coral Island. It's kind of Stardew Valley 3D, and that's a good thing. Add the diving mechanic, and bug catching (which other games have) add to the classic formula. Since I lived on the Gulf Coast during BP's Deepwater Horizon disaster, the premise of Coral Island definitely resonates. I'm not a fan of pixel art, but I'm not having a problem with Stardew Valley because they don't bob up and down (which makes me a bit queezy). It's a great game, and I'm happy Coral Island takes it's roots from that one. Kinda like Factorio -> Satisfactory, or Dwarf Fortress -> Rimworld -> Stranded Alien Dawn. Evolution of the genre. And Coral Island's dev team is Indonesian, not a giant company.

Damn. Alright, I will say that I used to think that I was a bit 'overattached' to the site because I like to do my dailies and try to save up for a nice paintbrush someday. I might spend a fair bit of downtime playing with my silly little virtual cats, but at least I never dropped a hundred-plus actual real life dollars for something on there.

Hello Kitty Big City Dreams mentioned!!! It's one of my favorite DS games ever, I've never heard anyone talk about it before :D Silly games like Hello Kitty Big City Dreams, Xia Xia, Pinkie Pie's Party, Mr Driller, etc, always offered a safe space away from conflict that more linear and serious games just didn't for me. I'm not much of a gamer, but when I do play a game, its to have a nice little space where everything will be ok. Thank you for touching on this genre of games. :>
